Site mapping
Durability Guaranteed - Pulhamite Rockwork - Its conservation and repair, published by Historic England in 2008, defines mapping as: ‘A procedure for recording and classifying the physical character and condition of a site or feature. In the survey and diagnostic phases of intervention, mapping facilitates the evaluation of materials and the distribution, type, intensity and (when applied over time) rate of their deterioration. As applied to monuments, its aim is to record and graphically express damage characteristics in the form of a damage map.’
